How to Report
Noise and Truck Traffic Related to Gas Development

CROWD has received inquiries from residents of West Deer requesting direction on how to communicate their concerns related to the noise and truck traffic to our township management and elected officials. West Deer Township management is aware of and actively working to hold EQT accountable to the conditions of the permit for the Leto well site and related facilities.

Here are some steps you can take to report incidents to the township:
  1. Email the township manager and assistant manager to register your complaint.  We recommend email so you have a written record of your concern with a date and time, and clearly explain what you have observed and/or are experiencing.
Email your concern(s) to:  [email protected] and [email protected]

  2. If you know who the township supervisor is for your district, arrange to talk to them about it.  It is critical our elected officials hear the issues directly from everyone affected.

  3. Email all five township supervisors to make them aware of your concerns and ask them to protect West Deer residents from further impacts.  Their email addresses are:
[email protected], [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected], [email protected]

  4. If your need is more urgent, such as active excessive noise, a strong chemical smell, or truck traffic not on the haul route (only allowed on Oak Road and Route 910 West heading toward Rt 8) Call West Deer Police 412.473.3056 a(Allegheny County dispatch) to report your concerns by providing the date, time and details of your specific issue.

  5. Attend a monthly township supervisors meeting.  All residents have a right to provide comments on non-agenda topics at the end of the meeting.  Express your concerns openly and let the supervisors know what you are experiencing and how it is affecting you and your family.

  6. Email the township management (e-mail addresses provided in #1) if you see truck traffic anywhere outside of the approved haul route, which is Oak Road to 910 West (toward Rt 8) traveling to and from the site.

What CROWD is doing:
  • We were able to have a noise monitor installed at a residents home near the well pad.
  • We have multiple air monitors installed that are monitoring how the air quality is being affected.
  • We are reporting and sending emails to the township about how truck traffic, noise, etc. is affecting residents.
  • We are continuing to raise awareness through our Facebook page, website and newsletter about new developments (like the proposed dehydrator) and advocate for the health and safety of all residents of West Deer.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY...we are advocating with the township supervisors to make changes to our zoning ordinance to limit further gas development and infrastructure from being built near where people live and play.  Oil & Gas Development should be prohibited in residential areas, however, zoning ordinances are the ONLY LEGAL way to limit expansion within West Deer.

We invite you to join us in the advocacy by voicing your concerns using the steps provided above.
