Board of Supervisors Reorganization Meeting
to be held in early January 2026
The new year is fast approaching, and the West Deer Board of Supervisors will hold its reorganization meeting in early January. At that meeting the board members will nominate and elect a Chairperson and Vice-chairperson for the year 2026 from the five board members. Joining current board members Jeff Fleming, John Hollibaugh, and Josh Wiegand are two newly-elected board members, Vince Mercuri and Bill Payne.
The Board of Supervisors is expected to take the following actions:
Of particular interest to residents and taxpayers is the vote to set the monthly supervisors’ meeting date and time for the year and to advertise in accordance with applicable laws. Recall that supervisors’ meetings are also now live streamed.
Each year, vacancies occur on various boards and commissions in West Deer Township. This past fall, the township advertised for applicants to these positions, and interested parties submitted letters of intent. Applicants are invited to this reorganization meeting, and may be interviewed at the meeting. Appointments or re-appointments are generally made at the first Board of Supervisors regular meeting in January.
In past years, the board has taken comments from the public at the reorganization meeting.
The Board of Supervisors is expected to take the following actions:
- Nominate and elect a Chairperson and Vice-chairperson for the year 2026.
- Appoint CPA firm as township auditor to examine township accounts for the fiscal year.
- Appoint a delegate and alternate to various local governmental committees
(North Hills Council of Governments, the Allegheny County Association of Township Officials, and the Allegheny North Tax Collection Committee). - Furnish bonds for the Township Manager and administrative personnel. Typically, the bonds are paid for out of the general fund.
- Authorize bank(s) for deposit of township funds. Currently those depositories are PNC Bank and PA Local Government Investment Trust.
- Authorize board members to attend spring and fall conferences of the Allegheny County Association of Township Officials and to reimburse the expenses of those attending.
- Authorize the use of the facsimile stamp signature on all the West Deer Township accounts.
